Murf VGT Explained 2026: Voice Generation Time, Rollover & Limits
Understand Murf Voice Generation Time (VGT), current plan allowances, rollover rules and why project credits and API characters are separate billing units.
Quick answer: Murf's core Studio usage meter is Voice Generation Time (VGT). It is not the same as API characters, Murf Dub credits or project credits. For budgeting a Studio subscription, VGT is the number that tells you how much AI voice generation the workspace can produce.

VGT is not a universal Murf credit
Murf has several billing units. Studio uses VGT, the API uses characters, and Murf Dub uses its own credit structure. Do not convert one into another unless Murf explicitly provides a conversion for that product.
How VGT rollover works
Murf says remaining VGT can carry forward when an active plan auto-renews or is paused. On monthly subscriptions, carried-over VGT from one cycle can be used in the following cycle but does not continue rolling forever. Annual subscriptions follow the same one-cycle carry-forward principle. Cancellation causes carried-over VGT to be lost.
What project credits mean
Project credits are a workspace-capacity limit, not a generation allowance. Murf describes them as the number of projects you may maintain in the workspace at a time. Murf’s current first-party documentation is inconsistent on the Creator project limit: its workspace article lists 5 project credits, while a separate Projects article gives an example of 100 projects for Creator. Treat the live workspace/checkout as authoritative for the current limit. This discrepancy does not change the documented VGT allowances.
How to estimate the plan you need
- Estimate finished narration minutes per month.
- Add a regeneration margin for pronunciation, pacing and alternate takes.
- Compare the result with Creator (2h), Growth (8h) and Business (20h) monthly VGT.
- Only move annual after the workflow is stable; Murf currently documents a 33% annual discount.
A production team generating 90 minutes of finished narration should not assume 90 minutes of VGT is enough. Regeneration and experimentation increase the consumed generation time, so a buffer matters.
